Fighting For The Injured And Social Security Recipients

Independent Medical Examination

On Behalf of | Firm News |

If you have sustained an injury in a car accident or on the job, there is a possibility that an insurance carrier will ask that you be examined by a doctor of their choosing.  This examination is called an “Independent Medical Examination” or IME.

Minnesota law provides that an insurance company can require you to submit to these examinations at reasonable intervals.  This IME doctor is selected by the insurance company and will not be treating you for your injuries.  After the examination, the IME doctor will issue a report.  If the IME doctor states you no longer need treatment then the insurance company will cut off your benefits.  Despite this unfair treatment there are still methods of obtaining reimbursement.
