Traumatic brain injuries are devastating, for the person that is injured as well as their family. The symptoms associated with a brain injury will range from person to person and will be different depending on the region of the brain that was injured, the degree of damage, etc. Individuals with brain injuries may develop depression, memory loss, mood changes, a loss of inhibition, difficulty concentrating, headaches, changes in personality, etc. Even after the brain heals individuals can suffer continuing psychological problems. These symptoms can cause significant distress for families. Many times family members become caregivers to those who have suffered a brain injury, which leads to considerable life changes.
