What happens if I am receiving Social Security Disability benefits and start working?
If you work while receiving Social Security Disability you can earn up to $770 a month with no effect on your benefits (please note, the amount you can ear per month changes every year and was less for years prior to 2014). Once you exceed that amount in a month, you have triggered a trial work period. You are allowed 9 months (not necessarily consecutive) in a rolling 60 month period were you may exceed the $770 amount without it being determined your disability has ended.
If you have been released without restrictions your benefits may be discontinued.
